I like a bit of history an this is alternative history withour going all steampunk or sic-fi. So the premise is Edward instead of abdicating to shag his American bit of fluff has stayed on the throne and PArliament has been dissolved and replaced with Mosleys BUF. They are now busy fighting the Anglican League and local Militia around the country. Set in 1938 this game allows you to fight either mass battles or skirmish through the streets of England. Whilst there is no definitive rule set, remember this is a genre not a games system, one that is used a lot is A World Aflame by Osprey www.amazon.co.uk/World-Aflame-Interwar-Wargame-Wargames/dp/1849086826/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1Z9BQ8TBKYXFP&coliid=I2R5V44FCHJSGQSo going forward I want to buy into this and fancy fielding a Anglican League force or even a local Militia, which I will get from Musketeer Miniatures. Anyone else fancy joining in ?

Been wanting to play this game for ages bought most of the source books from solway crafts ages ago. The source books are well worth a read even if you never decide to get into the game. The source books are so in depth and full of detail, as you pointed out Steve, Edward has refused to give up the throne and has formed a parliament around the BUF and there main opponents are the Anglican league, but there's more to it than that. Liverpool has declared its self an independent state and is under siege by the royalists, Scotland has declared its self a republic and is fighting a war against a jacobite rebellion led by a german count, cornwall has declared independence, wales is fighting a war against north welsh nationalist with the IRA in the mix, there's the people's free army made up of communists form industrial areas of the UK, there's Albertine forces declaring edwards brother albert as lord protector and Major general Wynd gator ( a religious nut) has landed on in channel islands with an army with troops from the british commonwealth ready to bring and i quote "a godly way of life to britain". That is just a small amount of stuff going on and the list of factions is endless they give you full freedom to create your on factions.
Also there is a dedicated rule set by solway too. "Brigadier" for large games were you can have amoured devision of ex ww1 tanks or DIY armour cars and there's "Went the Day Well" for skirmish games. I might be tempted into asking farther christmas for a starter set for christmas from Musketeer but I don't get much time for gaming these days.

Martin when you do get some time let us know mate as this is a game that will be getting some game time with us. May well be using the World Aflame rules but will have a look at the Went the Day rules too. I will look at Brigadier too as doing large scale division battles for this could be fun.

Then i'd be interested Chris you can do anything you like as long as it fits with in 1938. Thought up a faction you might like to do "West ham united peoples militia" based in west ham and docklands made up of the working class of east London, they have commie and lefty leanings and are currently involved in on going street battle with the BUF. They are well equipped being supplied by the docks under there control from Liverpool and Russia. They have been the thorn in the BUFs side in there total domination of London with WHUPM controlling Victoria docks and the surrounding area.

Got my minis from Musketeer and they are flipping fantastic also got the Went Well rules and not sure they are worth a tenner as they are so small ! But is a platoon based skirmish so lets see how it plays.

Went The Day Well allows for a game involving no points to build your forces. Its all based on Platoons and each Platoon must involve an HQ, 5 men and at least one 10 man squad. The rules read very well but want to wait for World Aflame to see which one is the best set. In the meantime the WWI figures are coming along nicely, fantastic detail and really nice to paint.

I'm eagerly awaiting my copy of the World Aflame book..... Amazon seem to do the best deals on this sort of thing..... and with free postage, what's not to like!? I'm considering doing The City of Chelmsford Militia...... but I could be 'seduced' by something else!

So I have the rules for both now and after a quick perusal I can safely say that they are nearly the same !! They call it skirmish but they are both based on Platoon to Company sized engagements, which isn't a problem but does give the feel of Bolt Action. I think the World Aflame rules will be the one to go with, not only because I know the author, but because I think it will give the greatest flexibility.
